There’s something truly special about stepping out of the rehearsal room and into the audience together... and our recent Stage Door Choir theatre trip to see Titanique at London’s Criterion Theatre was nothing short of spectacular.
From the moment we gathered in Piccadilly Circus, there was a buzz in the air. This wasn’t just a theatre visit; it was a celebration of everything we love about musical theatre...storytelling, powerhouse vocals, outrageous humour, and sharing it all together as a choir community.
And what a show we chose.

Astrid Harris: Simply Sensational as Céline Dion
At the heart of Titanique is Céline Dion herself — or rather, the gloriously fabulous version brought to life by the incredible Astrid Harris.
Astrid’s performance was nothing short of extraordinary. Her vocals were stunning... rich, controlled, and soaring effortlessly through Céline’s iconic catalogue. But it wasn’t just the singing that captivated us (though that alone would have been worth the trip). Her comedic timing, character work, and sheer stage presence were phenomenal.
She embodied Céline with warmth, mischief, and just the right amount of diva sparkle. Whether narrating the story, breaking the fourth wall, or delivering vocal fireworks, Astrid had the audience, and our choir singers, completely spellbound.
It’s always inspiring for singers to witness that level of vocal artistry live. Many of us left the theatre newly energised, reminded of the emotional power and technical brilliance that great performers bring to the stage.

Comedy Gold: Highlights We’ll Never Forget
Titanique is gloriously, unapologetically hilarious... and the cast delivered moment after moment of comic genius.
The Mother’s outrageous rants were a particular highlight. Her no-holds-barred delivery and perfectly timed absurdity had us in stitches. Every line landed, and her escalating dramatic fury was a masterclass in comedic performance.
Then there was the Iceberg, yes, the Iceberg, transformed from tragic inevitability into an iconic, scene-stealing character moment that perfectly captured the show’s irreverent spirit as the iconic Tina Turner.
Molly Brown was equally unforgettable, bursting with personality, confidence, and scene-commanding energy. Her presence lit up the stage and added to the show’s wonderfully chaotic charm. We won't ever listen to 'Tell Him' in the same way again!
And of course, Titanique’s genius lies in its pop culture brilliance. The show’s playful nod to RuPaul’s Drag Race, complete with characters essentially “lip syncing for their lives” to secure lifeboat spots, was pure comedic gold. It was unexpected, ridiculous, and utterly perfect.
The Door Scene...Reimagined to Perfection
No retelling of Titanic would be complete without the infamous final door scene... and Titanique’s version was absolutely hilarious.
What could have been predictable was instead brilliantly subverted, pushing the absurdity to new heights while still paying affectionate tribute to the original. The audience roared with laughter, and it was a perfect reminder of how musical theatre can take familiar moments and reinvent them in completely unexpected ways.

A Night That Brought Us Closer Together
Beyond the incredible performances, the evening meant so much to us as a choir.
It was wonderful to see singers from both of our Stage Door Choir venues in Greenwich and Wimbledon come together socially, connecting outside our usual rehearsal spaces. There’s something powerful about sharing live theatre as performers ourselves...watching, learning, laughing, and experiencing the magic together.
These shared experiences strengthen our musical community. They remind us why we sing, why we perform, and why musical theatre continues to inspire us.
Many of our singers left feeling creatively recharged... inspired by the vocal excellence, theatrical boldness, and sheer joy of live performance.
We left the Criterion Theatre reminded of exactly why we do what we do...to tell stories, to share music, and to create unforgettable moments together. Here’s to carrying that inspiration into our next rehearsals, performances, and many more magical nights out as The Stage Door Choir.
If you feel inspired to sing with us, you can join the Stage Door Choir in Greenwich or Wimbledon and become part of our vibrant musical theatre community.
